SUMMER FUN IN A MULTIFAMILY COMMUNITY

Posted by sunrise255 on June 27th, 2015

For many, summer is a time to unwind, relax and have a little fun.  Your residents, I’m sure, are no exception.  However, summer does come with its own safety concerns which should be addressed with your residents.  Here are a few tips to maintain a safe yet fun and lively community:

  1. Initiate a no open flame policy. This means that coal and gas grills are not allowed.  Offering alternatives to residents will help soften the blow.  Smokeless indoor electric grills might serve as an alternative.  Or, collect some recipes for slow cooked meals, such as pulled pork, that offer an alternative to grilled meats.
  2. If your community has a pool, water safety should be a priority. Post signs with pool rules, including no unaccompanied children under 18, in highly visible locations.  In addition, it may be helpful to share some water safety information with your tenants.  Free signage, brochures and videos are available at http://www.poolsafely.gov/.
  3. Do your apartments feature patios with sliding doors? Those are easy targets for would-be thieves.  Encourage residents to double check locks and use an additional bar lock or a pole along the track.
  4. Many people choose the summer months to take a vacation. Ask residents to let you, and possibly a neighbor, know when you will be out of town.  That way, you can keep a look out for unfamiliar faces.
